Rhiannon graduated from the University of Cambridge in 2013 and started working in a mixed animal practice in South Wales before coming to work at Acorn. Rhiannon loves all aspects of internal medicine and has a particular interest in feline medicine, and has helped to develop the cat-friendly ethos at Acorn. In 2024, Rhiannon gained her BSAVA Certificate in Small Animal Medicine. She works closely with our wonderful cat charity partner Cats Protection and Wirral Animal Sanctuary.
Mel qualified from Liverpool University in 1996 and has always worked with small animals. Mel has been an integral part of the team at Acorn since May 2008, and has developed an interest in both medicine cases and rabbits. At home, Mel has a chocolate labrador called Arwen at home.
Becky graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in 1997. She worked in mixed practice for several years before concentrating on small animal work only. Becky enjoys the challenge of veterinary practice, and the satisfaction of doing the best that she can for her patients and their owners. Becky has two dogs, Emmie and Otis, and Timmy the cat. When Becky is off work, she loves spending time with her family, which involves watching a lot of football and rugby matches! She also enjoys reading and walking her dog. Becky is currently carrying out a certificate.
Matt graduated from the University of Nottingham in 2022 and joined our team immediately after. Matt enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine, with a particular interest in Internal Medicine and Soft Tissue Surgery. At home Matt has a Golden Retriever, Ragdoll and two lizards. When not in work or caring for his pets, he enjoys travelling, immersing himself in new cultures and trying out the local cuisines. He also enjoys swimming and all things outdoors.
Rachael graduated as an RVN in 2015 and has been working in small animal practices in a range of nursing and management roles since then. She joined Acorn as Head Nurse in 2019, and in 2023 also took on the role of Practice Coordinator. She currently works across multiple sites within Willows in the Practice Coordinator role. She is currently working on a post-graduate certificate with the University of Liverpool in Business Management which takes up a lot of her time outside of work.
Outside of work Rachael enjoys travelling and going to music events/festivals with friends. She is also a lover of Harry Potter and has three animals named after characters from the series! Dobby the dog, Kreacher and Dora the blind cats (both of whom were rescues from her time working at Acorn)!
Rachael’s favourite part of her role is organising fun team activities for the rest of Team Acorn to unwind outside of all the fantastic clinical work they do for all our patients and clients
Fran qualified in 2018 and joined the team at Acorn in 2022. Fran’s favourite area of nursing is anaesthesia and surgery, and she enjoys getting involved in nurse led procedures. She loves all kinds of animals, and before becoming an RVN she was a zookeeper! She has 3 dogs, a young daughter and a leopard gecko at home. Outside of work Fran enjoys reading and spending time with her daughter.
Esther qualified as a Veterinary Nurse from the Royal Veterinary College in 2019. She has since gained a Certificate in Small Animal Nutrition and is currently studying for her Certificate in Feline Nursing. Esther is definitely a cat person and has a very naughty cat at home called Gizmo. She has also rehomed a second cat, Pip, through her work at Acorn. She enjoys carrying out nurse consults, supporting patients through weight clinics, and supporting our senior patients with arthritis. She is also a clinical coach and supports our students in their training. Outside of work Esther enjoys keeping active, baking gluten free goodies and reading.
Sarah Ford
Kim has worked at Acorn Vets since 2007 and qualified as a registered veterinary nurse in 2011. Kim has an interest in all things cats and advocates feline friendly nursing. In her time away from work, Kim enjoys spending time with her two children and two beautiful Bengal cats.
Gemma is our longest standing member of staff; she started at Acorn in 1995 and became a Qualified Veterinary nurse in 2000. Gemma has a keen interest in consulting and pharmacy. She has 2 guinea pigs named Oreo and Tate. Outside of work Gemma enjoys building Lego with her son and completing charity races. She is also an active blood donor!
Chris joined Acorn in 2020 and qualified as a Veterinary Nurse in 2025. Chris enjoys all aspects of surgery, and particularly enjoys getting to scrub in to assist the vets with Laparoscopic Spays. Chris has 2 cats at home – Gizmo and Pip. Pip was rehomed through his time working at Acorn. Chris enjoys music and films from all eras and is known as the practice clown, always making us laugh.
Koreen has achieved her British Veterinary Receptionist Association Bronze Award and her Competent Vet Dispenser Award.
Chelsea has been in veterinary for 4 years and has two babies: Chance, her loving tortie feline friend and Milly Moo her Best Bunny. In her spare time, Chelsea enjoys musical theatre- her favourite being Phantom of the Opera. She also loves anything Disney.
Ali graduated with a degree in Hotel Management & French from the University of Gloucestershire, but found her love of pets to be too great! Ali enjoys working with a great team at Acorn and meeting clients and their animals. Ali has recently completed her SQP qualification, allowing her to advise and dispense certain veterinary medicines. Ali has achieved her British Veterinary Receptionist Association Bronze Award and her Competent Vet Dispenser Award
Imogen graduated with a Degree in French at Aberdeen University in 1986 and enjoyed a career with the Foreign Office traveling the world, before returning to her Wirral roots. Imogen loves animals, and fulfilled a childhood dream of working at a vets when she joined the Acorn team in May 2024, where she loves getting to know all the pets and their owners. Imogen shares her life – and long walks – with her beautiful rescue Greyhound Roxy.
Heidi is a qualified BVRA Gold level Receptionist who joined Acorn in January 2022. Heidi has a daughter, a horse (though definitely leaves her daughter to ride her!), a British Long Hair cat called Mr. Pickles, and a Cocker Spaniel called Sherlock. Heidi enjoys exercising, Liverpool Football Club, gigs and festivals, reading and travelling.
Meg joined the Acorn team in 2022 and has since gained her BVRA Gold award making her an Accredited Veterinary Receptionist. She enjoys expanding her knowledge in various areas of Reception. Meg has a dog named Teddy, a rabbit named Florence and 6 Guinea Pigs (Mabel, Dorothy, Panda and Pops and Sam and Max). Outside of work she enjoys walks with Teddy, building Lego and any kinds of crafts.
Rachel is our in-house insurance wizard, and deals with all of our insurance queries and claims and also helps our team on reception.
